My plate is more full now.

In a good way. As if I need more stuff to do aside from being a mom, working, working part-time at the gym, domestic (not so much) goddess, running, etc. I got myself involved in some volunteering. And not the easy volunteering where you just show up, but a real big organization in the city.

I had a meeting tonight, just a few of us. Now in real life I'm not a big social butterfly. Yes I teach in front of 40 some odd people a week but really I have a script of what to say when I'm on stage. Real life...I'm shy. So as I sat in on this meeting where people were talking about all the connections they had (radio newsperson and another vetern volunteer) I sat there thinking what the hell am I doing here. I had to keep reassuring myself...."You're stepping out of the box, it will be fine". This is very scary to me, sounds so stupid. It is just something that is very far from what I am used to.

And why am I doing this? To show my children that we need to give, to help and it is rewarding. The organization paid for the incubator my oldest daughter was in when she was born 6 weeks premature. As I sat there day and night, staring at their logo, I said to myself I've got to do something with them. A long story shortened: My daughter was born early and 5 days before my sisters wedding, with what the organization has done for our local hospital I was able to stay in town and attend the wedding. Which was a huge blessing. Finally after emails, minimal volunteering, 4 years later almost to the day I'm on a head committee. Scared a little but helping more sick children in my city.

Day of sister's wedding

That is so amazing Sarah! Sometimes we can become so consumed in ourselves that we forget about those that have helped us get to where we are...what a great example you are setting to your children and me. Thanks!
