Getting out of your comfort zone

I usually do an easy pace run. Comfortable, no injuries, no sore muscles and slow, but my training has tempo runs, intervals and hills. All things necessary to get better in the long run. So last night after the kiddies went to bed (super early too!) I headed to the gym to get my run in. I find the treadmill really important to get my speed runs in because I can't really tell how far/fast I'm running outside. So I thought I ran pretty fast, probably wasn't that fast but I was inbetween 6.0 and 7.5 miles an hour. Running at 7.5 is really fast for me and I could only hold it for about 45sec but I KNEW I was working. I think these tempo and intervals will really get me out of my regular slow pace and I will see improvements.
Hopefully I will get another run in tonight. Whew I'm so exciting on a Friday night!

Sounds like you are enjoying something different. I have jsut started out on the treadmill again, now I am NOT a runner, but I want to get in to it. I walked @ 3.5 and ran/jogged @ 4.6 - i have no idea if this is good bad or not but it felt good and I am sure I can work from there, I did 2 mins of each for 20 mins.

Speed and hill training always get me working my butt off, but they definitely pay off don't they?! :)

Good job on pushing yourself. I think that's true in most aspects of life: going outside your comfort zone is when you grow as a person.
