Sunday long run

I follow a plan for running and ever since I started this plan it really helps. Some days are long, some are intervals, but I know on say Tues I don't run, Thurs I have an easy run and this really helps me to plan. Sunday's run is always a longer one, the decision today was I either run a long run or I run the Terry Fox 5K with my kids. I think I could probably do a 5K in about 32min and I was supposed to do a 70min run today. So I opted to do the long run. I know I should have donated money to Terry Fox and I'm certain it would have been fun but I really need to stick to this schedule or I get all off in my running.

And I still ran with my girls, slowly but we did the whole 70min run together, I feel really good about it and still am amazed that I can run this long and probably could have gone longer.

What did I learn in a 70min run? Well after an hour my calves started to cramp up. I also realized that I cannot back track. I need a route and go all the way. When I go out 20min and follow the same route back 20min I never run the full time. Funny how I do that, maybe my brain gets bored because I've already seen it. So when I need to do these longer runs I've just kept going and found some pretty decent routes. The picture about a 10min run from my house, its on a big hill so the girls love this one. In the background is a bigger lake that we run along quite often. I love this area and although, I believe we are one of the most polluted cities in Canada I'm really fortunate to have great running weather and routes. Now don't get me wrong its not BC or anything scenic but its just plain old "W" town which really ain't that bad.
